| The muse, she appears in unexpected ways. This time, she took the form of a young bossa nova jazz musician from Chicago. I am inspired to build a jazz octave mandolin/tenor guitar. As usual, I'll make a matching pair of prototypes. I have never built a jazz specific instrument before. I was going to build an acoustic instrument...but I changed my mind (or my mind was changed), so now it's going to be an electric-acoustic. I'm tossing together a profile here and a rough external form for the bending the sides. I'm still unsure whether it's going to be an archtop or a flat top. Maybe a flat top. But it'll have a humbucker pickup built into the instrument. f-holes? round holes? hmmmm...so many possibilities. I love this part of projects, when inspiration runs rampant!!! |
