IMG_0382.JPG - The sides are made by bending the wood using standard guitar building technique. The widget clamped down in the foreground is a bending iron, an electrically heated bar of aluminum. You can get this tool from places like www.stewmac.com or www.internationalviolin.com for less than 150$. The thin side panels are sprayed with water (not 'vinegar'--bad label) and pressed against the bending iron to take on the curvy shapes. Slow, careful work is needed here.
